Interview with Nadia Ali (Model)
(Emerging Talent in Fashion)
How did you start off with modeling and at what age?
I started two years ago when I was 18 years old. I considered that I had the potential to be a model, so I stepped into the business.
Who inspired you to become a model?
I wasn't inspired by anyone in particular, because I wasn't very well aware of any of the super models at that time.
How did you develop your skills as a fashion model?
I think it was within me. Ather Shahzad helped me in polishing my skills.
What other profession would you have chosen besides modeling?
I wouldn't have chosen any other profession but I would have completed my studies and I love to write, so I would have either become a writer or a poet.
What is your dream project?
I don't have a dream project now but later I might come up with one.
What type of modeling do you enjoy, fashion shoots or runway?
I like both. I think I have the ability to accomplish both the types.
Name any three of your favourite local fashion designers.
Karma, Omar Saeed and Mehdi top the list.
Name any three of your favourite fashion models.
I like all of them but I think Iman is best for shoots and Vinnie is best on the ramp.
How does it feel to be nominated in the category of 'emerging talent in fashion' in the Citigold Lux Style Awards 2007?
It feels good. It gives me a positive feeling that people have recognized me in this field and have considered me good enough to be nominated in this category.
Among the nominees of the Citigold Lux Style Awards who do you think is your biggest competitor?
I think Mariam and Abroo as they are highly talented.
Did your parents encourage you to take up modeling as a profession or they wanted you to become something else?
(Laughs) No they still haven't accepted the idea. They wanted me to complete my studies and then do something more conventional, but I'm sure they will be glad to hear that I have been nominated.
Is there anything you would like to change about your appearance?
Nothing at all, I'm very happy the way I am.
What message or advice would you like to give to upcoming models?
They should work hard in order to make themselves perfect in every way and should try to reach the top. This profession is not easy and if they feel they have the ability to become a model then they should step forward into it.
