Ahsan Khan Ghar Kab Aao Gay made him a household name. With Ahsan’s boy-next-door image, he rose to stardom. While every one was hoping that he would be signing big banner movies, he left films and joined the tube again. Today, he is appearing in a host of mega-budget serials and after getting successful in Javed Fazil’s hit serial DunyaDari, he is on the uprise. He has already bagged a number of plays like Betti, Chashman, Zindagi, Bahar and Mohabbat.com and plays like Saya, Uljhay Suljhay, Silsila, Taqdeer and Khilona are still in the pipeline.
Post Ghar Kab Aa Gay and he is a star overnight. And now today after Javed Fazil’s DunyaDari has been a hit, Ahsan’s joy knows no bounds. “I knew that it would be appreciated”, was his instant response. “With such a big cast, I was a bit nervous but I tried my level best and today I own up to my hardwork”. Besides working in DunyaDari, he has also worked in Shalakot, a serial penned by Ashfaq Ahmed which also became quite famous, ‘It was a classical play in Ashfaq Ahmed’s philosophical style. I really enjoyed the experience.’
Among his new serials, Tapish, directed by the famous KTV’s actress Sadia Imam is on air - ARY Digital. The cast includes Sadia Imam, Saba Pervaiz, Ghulam Moheyydin, Azhar Ali, Ghalib Kamal, Fiza Ali, Parveen Akbar along with Ahsan. While he is very much optimistic about Khayaal, another serial by Javed Fazil and in fact his first telly serial after Ghar Kab Aao Gay.
It has not yet been on air for some reasons and Ahsan is desperately waiting for his role in that play. It has been shot in London and alongwith Ahsan there are others like Vinnie, Zeb Ch, Shazia Akhter, Noman Aijaz and Asad. Betti is one play, he is very much hopeful of. Directed by Usman & Zulfiqar, the play is about the sensitive family matters. Ahsan plays the lead role and is very much happy over the way his work is going on in that serial. “The story is good and the directors know their work. I am sure viewers would appreciate the play”.
So, how is the feeling after the success of DunyaDari, “I am very happy, in fact, I have felt the difference as an actor in movies and on the small screen. At the same time I do not want to end up doing sitcoms. I want to do some quality work’, replies Ahsan.
After trying hard in Lollywood in the past four years, he has at last established himself as a telly actor. From his first movie Nikah and Ziddi to DunyaDari, he has come a long way.
Initially, he used to be conscious about his makeup but now he seems to be developing some confidence. At the very moment he is working on a host of plays, some of which he doesn’t even remember. Doesn’t it effect your performance as an actor, to which Ahsan says, “I know at times it becomes very difficult to manage so many projects at a time but I try my level best,” continues Ahsan.
“I like working with all good directors. I am fortunate enough to work with the likes of Syed Noor, Sangeeta and Hassan Askari in Lollywood. Here, too, I feel myself equally lucky working with the best of directors in television like Pervaiz Malik, Javed Fazil and Usman Zulfiqar. It is always pleasant working with Pervaiz Malik. Usman Zulfiqar are among the best directors. Professionally speaking, they know how to take work from an artist. You can learn a lot from them. Javed Fazil is a complete institution in himself. He works very hard on his projects and knows what he exactly wants.”
So, that means you sign the serial without seeing the script and knowing your character? ‘No, I don’t always do that. There are some people whom you can trust. But, I look for a lot of things while signing a serial. First of all, which team I am going to work with, what character I am going to play, then, I listen to the script and make a demand.”
For him working on PTV gives the exposure that he feels Private Production can’t. ‘PTV as they say is a family oriented channel but technically speaking, PTV’s quality doesn’t match up with that of the private production houses”. Have any competition? “No, I don’t feel that I have any competition because no one is at my level - most of the actors are my seniors while I am just a beginner. I am not jealous of any body. If my co-stars have insecurities then it is their business.”
His favourites includes Humayun Saeed and Shahrukh Khan. While among his co-stars all are his favourites and he ran into telling each and every one’s name including Sana, Farah Shah, Sadia Imam, Janna Malik, Amna Haq and Maria Wasti. Why all? “As they all are very good and are very helpful,” says Ahsan with a glint in his eyes.
No plans for movies now? “After the success of Ghar Kab Aao Gay, I have received a number of offers but I want to break away from stereotype roles and concentrate more on plays. I want to do some serious roles rather than playing action heroes”, he commented.
When asked about his plus and negative points, Ahsan was quick to remark, “I am short tempered, very dependable, friendly, and caring as a person.” Ahsan’s future plans include seting up his own studio and working on his productions.
