Abbas Ali Khan My earliest memories of playing music are on my tiny 2 octave piano that I got for my 6th birthday. From then on, the keyboards got bigger and so did my involvement with my music. My first band was at age 14, and it was called Amadeus. We used to play in school and do shows around Islamabad but never did any commercial concerts. I wrote my first song, 'Qadam say Qadam' , for Amadeus in 1987 and we managed to get in on local radio as well... a big achievement for us school kids back then... After that, we managed to get a break on national TV with Music Channel Charts, when Ghazanfar Ali offered to make a video for our song and also include it in the MCC audio releases.

Mag4you.com: Tell us something about your upcoming album? Abbas: Well if I start from the beginning to the end, this interview will be never ending. But long story short is, that signed up a contract with BMN records two years back, after 1 year of the signing of the contract my album came out by the name of “Humsafar” at that time I wasn’t really known as none of my videos had come on air. On the other hand BMN Records gave me a pathetic distribution and promotion further more when I made the video of my first song “jane kia hay” on my own expenses they didn’t even play the video in there top ten program as a new entry. After a lot of suffering and begging to BMN for a launch, when they didn’t give me any response I decided to signup with a new label called SKJ music, re-master my album with better sound added a new track called “Tum Aajao” and named the album as this song. So basically “Humsafar” who hasn’t been heard by the masses is re-launching with a new name, new sound, and better promotional activities.
Mag4you.com: Music recognition or Achievements? Abbas: Here I will take only one name initially and that is Indus music, when I sent my first video to them , they genuinely gave it the airing that it required for the viewers to at least see it to come to conclusions about it. Then requests started to come in and the song went to number 1 on there program called “dus tak charts” and stayed there for two weeks. Soon after that I sent my second video to them of my song called “chori chori” which is now days on air. I also gave four songs in a branded Lipton musical serial called “lipton humsafar” they also did pretty well, I haven't really started live performances yet, because first I want to gain some credibility so that I can justify selling my tickets and soon after the re-launch a series of live shows are coming up all over the country.
Mag4you.com: Type of music you like? Abbas: I like any thing which sounds melodious, but particularly I like eastern classical, soft rock, fusion, R&B and even sometimes hip hop.
Mag4you.com: Type of music you hate? Abbas: I wont say hate, but I really don’t get along with death/black metal and bangra.
Mag4you.com: What do you think about other Pakistani artists? Abbas: Well I’m really glad to see that new artists are coming in, there is a lot of competition ahead because most of the new artist are good. Another thing that I have noticed is that just like in the west we are starting to have dedicated audience for different genre of bands and soon this will grow , the time is not far when there will be jazz bands in the scene and will have a number of people dedicated to there music as well similarly for other genres.
Mag4you.com: How would you like to be remembered? Abbas: I would liked to be remembers as a great artist or probably a legend and definitely not a star.
Mag4you.com: Favorite musicians (Pakistani)? Abbas: Adnan Sami, Abida parveen, nazia and zoheb, fusion, aaroh, raishma, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Vital Signs
Mag4you.com: Favorite Song (Pakistani)? Abbas: Teray Bina (fuzon), ajnabi (Vital Signs) and Chehra (Zoheb) and loads more.
